The jump platform is not a bridge, a crane, or a tower. It is the underside of a working cable car, suspended mid-span between Chrindi and the Stockhorn summit station, and it is one of the few gondola-based bungee sites operating anywhere in Europe.

The mountain itself is older than any of it. Stockhorn rises to 2,190 metres at the western end of the Bernese Oberland, a limestone wedge of Wildhorn nappe rock thrust northward during the Alpine orogeny. Its north face drops in near-vertical bands above the Simmental valley. Beneath the cable car line sits the Oberstockensee, a small dark lake used for winter ice fishing, and further along the ridge lies the Hinterstockensee. The cable car from Erlenbach im Simmental opened in 1975 and climbs in two stages, with the mid-station at Chrindi serving hikers, the Stockhorn ridge trail, and the panorama restaurant near the summit tunnel.
What makes the site matter today is the geometry. A bridge jump gives a fixed anchor and a river below. Here the cabin hangs free on a span, so the anchor moves with the wind, and the drop runs into open air above alpine pasture rather than water. Jump masters work from a hatch cut into the cabin floor. The valley below shows farmsteads, the Simme river, and on clear mornings the Thunersee to the north, with Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau on the southern horizon.
The summit station holds a viewing terrace, a suspension footbridge across the rock notch, and a tunnel bored through the ridge that emerges on the south side. The buildings are functional rather than decorative — concrete, steel cable, and glass shaped by snow load and exposure. Erlenbach im Simmental, the valley base at Kleindorf 338A, keeps a row of painted timber Simmental farmhouses from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, several carrying carved inscription beams above their doors.
Several operators sell stockhorn bungee jump price tickets as a departure from Interlaken, folding transfer and cable car access into a single reservation. Comparable gondola and bridge jumps elsewhere — Kawarau, Nevis, Bloukrans — are the usual reference points, but none share this combination of a moving platform and a limestone amphitheatre.
