The mountain itself has been a working landscape far longer than an adventure one. Alpine pasture, marmot colonies and a karst of sinkholes define the upper slopes, and the summit terrace looks across Lake Thun to the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Ibex appear on the ridges through early summer. The evening rhythm is fixed: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 16:15 to 20:00, once the last walkers have gone down.
